"First" gets used a lot in this industry, so let me tell you exactly what I mean by it — and just as importantly, what I don't.
I'm not claiming to be the most talented, the most experienced, or the best at what I do. Those are judgments other people get to make, not me. What I can say with certainty is this: YOURHAIRNOMAD is the first practice in Ottawa built entirely, from day one, around professional hair smoothing.
That's a structural claim, not a skill claim. Here's the difference it actually makes for your results.
Most salons offer everything
Walk into a typical Ottawa salon and the menu includes cuts, colour, extensions, blowouts, and — somewhere on the list — smoothing treatments. That's not a criticism; it's just how most salons are built, to serve a wide range of needs under one roof. But it means smoothing is one service among a dozen, not the specialty.
I made the opposite choice. I built a studio with exactly one focus. Every product on my shelves, every hour of training, every appointment on my calendar is about one thing: getting your hair smoother, stronger, and easier to manage. When that's the only thing you do, you get good at the details other people skip — how a treatment behaves on colour-treated hair, when nanoplastia beats keratin, how much heat is actually needed and not a degree more.
A private studio, not a chair in a row
YOURHAIRNOMAD operates from a dedicated studio space in Westboro. There's no lineup of chairs, no other client's blowout happening next to your consultation. It's private, it's quiet, and it's built for one appointment at a time — because that's what a real treatment consultation actually needs.
Mobile, when that works better for you
Some weeks, coming to me isn't realistic. So I also offer mobile appointments across Ottawa–Gatineau, bringing the same studio-grade products and process to you. A fixed salon location can't offer that. A specialist built around flexibility can.
One consultation, then one recommendation
I don't have a default treatment I push on everyone. Every appointment starts with an honest look at your hair's history, texture, and goals — then I recommend the treatment that actually fits, whether that's vegan keratin, hair botox, nanoplastia, protein, or Japanese straightening. Sometimes that means telling a client the treatment they asked for isn't the right one for their hair. That's the job.
So when I say "Ottawa's first," I mean the studio itself — the structure, the focus, the way appointments are built — not a claim about who's the best in the city. I'll let the results speak to that part.
