Two people can get the exact same treatment and see different results — porosity is often the reason why. Here's what it actually means for your hair.
What porosity is
Porosity describes how easily your hair's outer layer, the cuticle, lets moisture and products in and out. Low porosity hair has a tightly-sealed cuticle that resists absorption. High porosity hair has a raised, more open cuticle that absorbs quickly — but also loses moisture just as fast.
Why it matters for treatments
High porosity hair (often from colour, heat styling, or chemical processing) tends to absorb smoothing treatments faster, but can also process unevenly if not handled carefully. Low porosity hair can be more resistant, sometimes needing a longer processing time to let the treatment actually penetrate.
How I account for it
Every consultation includes a look at your hair's porosity — not just its length or colour. It directly affects which treatment I'd recommend and how I adjust timing and product amount to get an even, lasting result.
